The fashion industry has turned a sharp corner on its stance on the use of animal fur, with luxe houses like Tom Ford and Gucci announcing their plans to go fur-free. It’s satisfying to see Givenchy joining the movement – yes, those glorious furs with their assertive shoulders and cinched waists that opened the show are synthetic.

This was Clare Waight Keller’s second ready-to-wear offering at Paris’s Palais de Justice. Waight Keller headed up Chloé for six years, and moving house and establishing a new voice is more difficult than people often give designers credit for.

Her starting point this season, she told Vogue backstage, was a pair of films, The Hunger and B Movie: Lust and Sound in West-Berlin, 1979-1989, an examination of the city’s club scene at that time.
