Marc Jacobs has apologised for cultural appropriation, telling InStyle,“Maybe I’ve been insensitive” after a cast of models wore pastel-coloured dreadlocks at his  SS 2017 show.

What I learned from that whole thing, what caused me to pause after it died down a little bit, was that maybe I just don’t have the language for this, or maybe I’ve been insensitive because I operate so inside my little bubble of fashion. – Marc Jacobs

The designer said the look was originally inspired by his friend Lana Wachowski, paying homage to her distinctive Raggedy Ann hairdo with madcap wigs styled as pastel dreadlocks.

The attention has not stopped the designer from continuing to reference other cultures. His AW17 show paid homage to the birth of NYC hip-hop with models that include Winnie Harlow, Adwoa Aboah, Slick Woods, and Lineisy Montero.
