In a dramatic departure from the vibrant prints and colours we’re used to seeing on the Versace runway, Donatella went goth for Spring 2023. Flickering candle bulbs bordered the runway, hazy purple lighting created a mysterious atmosphere and the royal hue would come to play another role — one that echoed the musical brilliance of the artist Prince.
“I have always loved a rebel, a woman who is confident, smart, and a little bit of a diva,” Donatella Versace said via press release.
The collection began with all-black garments, giving the impression that the Italian house — synonymous with a more-is-more aesthetic — was delving deeper into a little different look that they’ve touched on in recent seasons. Gigi Hadid opened the show and led out a series of cutout jersey dresses, rocker leathers in the shape of tiny skirts, fringed jackets, low-slung belts, and silver and gold studded gowns.
The highlight, however, was the appearance of the original Y2K rebel, Paris Hilton, who closed the show in a hot pink Barbiecore dress.
