In a move that is as unpredictable as 2020 itself, Pantone — the wold’s colour authority — has announced that two colours have been chosen for the 2021 Pantone Colours: Ultimate Grey and Illuminating, a combination of dull, familiar grey and the bright yellow of lemon skin. The choice sums up the vibe for the past year of quarantine, a time in which we had to isolate ourselves from the world and curl up in blankets at home.

“It’s a dependable grey,” Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, told the New York Times.

The colour of the year is meant as a trend forecast, an evidence-based finding on which hues are newly popular. And as photographer Nick Leuze captured, the street style stars were as usual ahead of the pack, seen in the 2021 Pantone Colours at various fashion weeks earlier this year. Read on to see our top picks of 2021’s hottest colours.
