Summer means festivals, and here in New Zealand we know how to fill a summer season with the best lineups of music, art, and escapism. There’s something for everyone when it comes to summer festivals this year.

Bay Dreams

When: January 2

Where: Tauranga

Hip-hop superstar Cardi B will hit Tauranga next year as the much-hyped headline act for Bay Dreams, as well as perform at Bay Dreams’ new sister festival in Nelson. Also on the line-up is US hip-hop trio Migos, Tash Sultana, Shapeshifter, Sticky Fingers, Peking Duk, $uicideboy$, Macky Gee, Pnau, Katchafire, Ladi6 and more.

Rhythm and Vines

When: 28 – 31 December 2018

Where: Waiohika Estate

New Zealand’s premier music and camping festival, and globally recognised as one of the world’s top new year’s destinations, Rhythm and Vines (R & V) is the first place to welcome in the first sunrise of the new year. Established in 2003, and is New Zealand’s longest running music and camping festival.

This year, the line up includes Vodafone Music Award winners Drax Project, JessB, Vince Staples and many (many) more.

Highlife New Year’s Eve

When: 31 December 2018 6:00pm – 2:00am

Where: The Wharf, 2 Queen St, Northcote, Auckland

Highlife returns this year with a very special New Year’s Eve party to welcome in 2019 at the spectacular Wharf venue on the Harbour. DJ’s live acts, dancers, performers, gourmet food, premium beverages, views of the fireworks and more at this prestigious waterfront location will all bring in 2019 with style.

Wondergarden

Wondergarden has pulled out the stops to see you into 2019 right and provide the ultimate soundtrack to Auckland City’s favourite NYE party. With the inclusion of some incendiary local talent to an already stacked bill and the addition of a new silo DJ zone, Wondergarden has your staycation sorted.

SoundSplash

When: 8 – 10 January

Where: Wainui Reserve, Raglan, Waikato

This boutique music festival is the ultimate location for attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant festivity, camp among the iconic coastal views and explore or surf Ngarunui beach just 500 metres from the festival site. Soundsplash caters to all peoples. The young and young at heart or the whole family held in a setting with a well crafted musical playlist, a myriad of market stalls, fun and informative workshops, kids and chill zones. Your go-to-destination to experience over the Kiwi summer awaits.

Rhythm and Alps

When: December 29-31

Where: Cardrona Valley, near Wanaka and Queenstown

One of the best festivals in New Zealand, Rhythm and Alps is guaranteed to be one of the best way to end the year.  The location is purely stunning, the line-up is always large and diverse, and you really can’t find a better festival atmosphere. Based in the Cardrona Valley, South Island, we couldn’t think of a more scenic festival location. As Rhythm and Vine’s sister festival, expect an almost identical lineup.

Splore

When: 21 – 24 February 2019

Where: Tapapakanga Regional Park, Auckland

Splore’s multiple stages feature a diverse line-up of compelling musicians, singers and DJs from around the world — but it’s also a place for more than music. For three days, the site buzzes with performing arts, visual and interactive art installations, workshops and forums. This year celebrates the 20th year of Splore, so prepare yourself for an extra-special experience.

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival

When: 28 January 2019 11:25am – 10:30pm

Where: Albert Park, Princes St, CBD, Auckland

Featuring the most talked about, critically-acclaimed and best live acts in the world right now, the 2019 Laneway Festival is the festival’s tenth birthday and looking to be the hottest ticket in town.

WOMAD

Takapuna Food, Wine and Music Festival

When: 16 February 2019 11:30am – 8:30pm

Where: Smales Farm, 74 Taharoto Rd, Takapuna, Auckland

The Takapuna Food, Wine & Music Festival returns to Smales Farm on Auckland’s North Shore Saturday, February 16th, 2019! This boutique urban festival is set to provide another amazing experience presenting a collaboration of some of the best international and local acts, New Zealand wineries and craft breweries, popular eateries and food vendors, creative artists, spectacular performers and more.
