Kate Sylvester recently debuted her Spring Summer 2018 capsule collection, The Red Balloon, at the China Heights Gallery in Sydney. The runway was filled with playful colours, patterns and lightweight whimsical materials.
With the current global atmosphere of doom and gloom, The Red Balloon collection is vibrant and positive, inspired by the simple image of a red balloon drifting up and away into the sky.
The collection pays tribute to the French short film The Red Balloon (1956), which tells the story of a red balloon with the life of its own following a young boy through the streets of Paris. The collection personifies the freedom, hope and happiness that a balloon represents.
Red Balloons also represent a playful energy with eccentric colour – both themes that Kate Sylvester clearly incorporates into the collection. With billowy romantic silhouettes, oversized bows and draping chiffon materials, the collection is a dreamy homage to Parisian summer style.
The collection features a fuchsia suit with a red contrast bow, a lilac chiffon maxi dress with front ruching, a playful pinup dress with a plunging neckline accessorised with a large polka-dot bow, bold colour blocked shift dresses, feminine flower patterns and whimsical blue hues.

Last year, Kate Sylvester presented Electric Dreams at New Zealand Fashion Week which was inspired by 90’s phenomenon Blade Runner. The vibrant range is available now in-store and online.
