As the population of budding makeup artists, bloggers, and vloggers on Instagram grows, we’re exposed to more and more OTT ideas. We’ve rounded up eight of the craziest beauty trends that showed up in 2017. They don’t call them beauty “crazes” for nothing.
Monochromatic red makeup
Monochromatic fashion is a beautiful thing: It slims and lengthens the figure while looking impeccably tailored, even if you’re feeling less than. But when monochromatic makeup made the scene, it led to legions of women not only wearing a red lip but brightening up their faces and swiping their lids, too.
Shaped eyebrows
For whatever reason, Instagram decided to be the platform for which women played with the shape of their eyebrows. Forget bushy or skinny: Squiggles, shapes, and slits were spotted all over social this year.

Random household items as beauty blenders
Whether it was hard boiled eggs, condoms or tomatoes, beauty addicts loved finding the most cringe-worthy and time-consuming ways to apply makeup.
Nose hair extensions
This craze all started with one viral post and eventually caught fire on our Instagram feeds. We’d admittedly try this out of curiosity, but it would end there.
Glitter roots
As pretty as this hair trend is can be, if you know anything about sparkles it’s that it is probably the messiest thing ever and nearly impossible to get rid of. So you basically just have glittery dandruff for at least a week.
Lollipop lips
MAC’s lollipop lips were unveiled at Preen’s AW 2017 show. The look involves the intentional smudging of lipstick on the outside of the lips (which is supposed to simulate the effect of sucking on a lollipop) and then rubbing it around your mouth.
Yellow blusher
Allure magazine reports that the trend appears to have emerged in late 2016 when beauty blogger @AshMeredith posted photos of the bold look.
Unicorn beauty
It seems that 2017 has been the year when everyone forgot about the classic black cat flick and started experimenting with replacements. The unicorn eyeliner is as extra as it gets.
